Lotus thoughts

I am supposed to be finished at work but those who have their own business can attest to the fact that it never really ends. There is always something to start and something to finish.

I am finishing up paperwork and getting my proverbial ducks in a line to start 2009 as I mean to finish.

I need to be careful that I don't overdo my holiday, as I often do. I could easily start things that can get out of control, so I will force myself to zen, read, potter, look after myself and be.

As a sign of the zen to come, my water lily came out yesterday. I have posted a picture of above. The water lily is in many different theosophies and cultural beliefs, including Egyptian, Hinduism, Buddhism and Chinese. Its is the sign of enlightenment as it emerges from the dark muddy water to bloom when the light is shined upon it. It is also the sign of rebirth and because it has buds, blossoms, and seed pods simultaneously on the same plant, it also symbolized the past, present, and future.

As a lotus flower is born in the water, grows in water and rises out of water to stand above it unsoiled, so I, born in the world, raised in the world having overcome the world, live unsoiled by the world.

Buddha

I plan to be unpoiled by the world these holidays, be of it but not in it. Wish me love and light my friends. I wish the same to you.
