Sunday cocktail musings

Carrie Fisher once said, "Two of the saddest words in the English language are, 'What party?"

Never fails to make me laugh. Why? Because we have all had the 'What party?' moment happen in our lives. It still hurts us a little when we are left out, exclusion is a bitch at any age.

My crazy puppy is currently undergoing dog training with the Karma Dog Listener. When he is out of control and pushing the dog pack boundaries he is put into the laundry, exclusion is the worst punishment for dogs. When he is calm he is then included back into the pack. He comes out and looks at me with his eyes saying, 'What party?'

I have had trouble with exclusion over the years. The best way to hurt me is to not include me. I blame my Pisces Moon. It is something I have worked on but only has shifted as my opinion of myself has improved, it is a self esteem issue. Always is.

Self esteem is vital for a happy life. Nothing else matters as much as self esteem.

I proclaim 2009 the Year of Self Esteem. My self esteem could do with a bit of boosting up, particulary after 2008 - the Year of Disappointment. Ongoing negative issues can wear down your self esteem.

At the risk of being naff, write down all the good things you know you are. Then write down all the amazing things you have done in yor life so far. If you have trouble thinking of anything wonderful or amazing then go out to your tribe and ask them to list a few for you. You will be surprised of what others love and admire you for.

Carry the words with you everywhere. I am planning to get my words tatooed backwards on my forehead so I read them whenever I look in the mirror. That should work a treat for the ol' self esteem.

Happy Australia Day for tomorrow peeps!

What a wonderful idea!! At the end of last year, my own "Year of (major) Disappointments, but Powerful Life Lessons", I wrote a list of all my achievements throughout the year. Despite the setbacks, the sidetracking, the "what party" moments, I was amazed that I had 1 1/2 A4 pages of achievements. And that was just in my business. What a boost to my self esteem. I am about to do one for my life! And, your blog has given me the idea of teaching this to the kids in my life. Focussing on our successes, however we choose to define them, is step 1 to a wonderful, positive self esteem.

Well done you! I had a teacher who once asked that a piece of paper for each person went around the class with your name on it. When we got the paper for each person, we all had to write something nice about the person on the paper. It had to be more than just 'nice' or 'friendly'. The responses had to be thoughtful and kind. I kept mine for many years and as I went through school and had many "What party?" moments, that piece of paper became worn through me looking at it. What a boost!

Ah, Happy Australia Day to you then! Sadly I don't get to celebrate any holidays here until ...well, a wee provincial one next month and then nothing really until Easter.

May I also suggest that we create a Vision Board? I just created one this morning for my computer desktop showing all the things I desire to have happen this year =) Every time I turn on the puter I see it and reaffirm my thoughts and desires. Weeee!!!! How fun!

=)

Love the vision board. I will dig mine out and have a look to see it is relevant.
Love and light to you.
Kate

Ooh i like the idea of a vision board on the 'puter. Thank you Kate for the post above. I think it will help solve my current dilemma of chosing which way to go career-wise. If i focus on what i've done well and been proudest of in the past i will bring more of that in rather than the constant replay of one major problem in my worried mind.
Now, off to get writing...
