Dance, monkey girl

I work in an industry where, to get work, one must do the dance of seduction in the boardroom. We must shake our money makers and work it for all we got, particularly in these uncertain times. When the economic shit goes down then our industry is seen as superfluous and indulgent. We are the sellers for the seller. To buy shit, people need to see our ads and our then go to the shop. The problem is, no one is going to the shops.

Retail is Australia, is slowing down even more. Talking to a retail expert yesterday, and listening to the man of the hour Gerry Harvey speak, people are careful where and how they spend their money right now. The only plus side in this retail disaster is the fact that people are pleasant to you when you walk into shops now. Someone I know, recently was asked if she needed help the other day in a shop, notorious in Melbourne for its snooty attitude. It is a shame we have to go to the brink to get what we should have always got, service with a hip shake.

This makes the need for the boardroom seduction dance a little more intense and the corporate hip shake, sexier than ever. We have had 3 pitches in 2 days, with more to come. The body is weary but the mind is willing. It is important to keep your integrity in these times. If you don't want to do the dance then don't. The worst things is to feel like you have lost your morals or your self respect.

However, if the bass is pumping and the the reward is a nice bunch of bananas and you are feeling fly ‘guurrl’, then dance it like you was shaking a Polaroid picture!

Like you, my industry is at the beginning of an expensive process - interior design. It is getting harder and harder to get people to commit, especially considering it is so difficult for individuals to get their hands on cash.

Also, like you we have committed to not prostituting ourselves just to get money in the door. It is so important in this climate not to be lured into old ways and practices that you know will be ultimately unprofitable and fraught with stress.

I would much rather work in a cafe, serving coffee listening to some cool beats than doing jobs that compromise my hard earned set of values. The lessons from Spiritual Business are holding fast.

Keep on a dancing and dance like no one's watching!!!

I suppose it is about ultimate responsibility. What are you prepared to do to make it happen and still feel good about yourself when you get into bed at night?

Ah, yes. Shameless marketing. What to do to get the numbers, yet not feel like you sold granny a useless life insurance policy or an icemaker to that eskimo. I know The Dance well, since I work in retail. Don't do up that last button, sister, and practice dropping pencils...
(JK JK of course lol!)
Good news is marketing is for the creative and sometimes we need to actually finance the same way, and get creative about BEING creative. You're resourceful and intelligent; just keep on keepin on
=)
