Uptight, out of sight

I am reading a great book called  - The Places That Scare You by Pema Chödrön, a Western Buddhist nun. It is a lovely read and perfectly timed for me right now.

First insight - enter every dialogue amd go through every door being open, flexible and kind.

Second insight - You experience so you can share the learnings with others. Good or bad, happy or painful. When you use your life to benefit others, either through action or sharing experiences, then you are living your truth.

It is not for me to ask if you are living your truth. Only you know the answer to that. I try to live my truth, share my learnings and experiences with people. It is up to the individual to take on the understanding if it resonates with them.I cannot learn for others, a lesson which has been hard won and a long time coming.

Whenever I get into mental strife, it is when I am looking for security and predictability in an uncertain and uncontrollable world. I set unrealistic expectations for myself and those around me. Breaking my own heart with sadness and disappointment.

I listened to a philosopher discuss Stoicism the other day. Whilst it was commonly viewed that the Stoics viewed emotion as an error of judgement, it was in fact their ultimate belief that they wielded ultimate freedom by not reacting to the capriciousness of life and its trials.

I would have been a terrible Stoic. Seneca would have been ashamed of me. However, I am working on being less reactive. Being patient and being my own pioneer woman. More flexible and less uptight. It is a lesson that continues as venture out into the world.

I wish you all a Happy Monday and may you live in interesting times.
