Large and small

Watching Elizabeth Gilbert (author of Eat, Pray, Love) speak yesterday and she said that she once yearned for 'a bigger, smaller life.' Less stuff, more soul.

I understand this concept and it is something I have been yearning for myself for some time. I am trying to trim my life down. I want my actions to reflect my personal values and I am being mindful of them when I take to a task.

I have made some choices at work and at home that have lessened the 'bigness' in my life giving more time to focus on the small. Taking a moment last year I realised how big my life was and how some of the energy I was expending were on things and people that didn't matter. It was crazy and too, too big.

Looking back, I yearned for smaller and time to do what fed my spiritual and emotional quest. I had this moment again this morning. I understand privilege and that I have it in my life. I am not complaining at all, I am grateful for all that I am and all that I have but the last 6 months have enabled me to make decisions that lessens the pressure.

One decision which involved my son and changing his school was a hard one to make. The hardest actually but it has been the greatest thing I have ever done. He is truly happy for the first time since kindergarten. He is buzzing each day and I do not have to spend all this time in the car or stress about finding the school fees. What I thought would be hard has made us all so, so happy.

There are other ways my life has become smaller yet bigger. I still have a long way to go but I am making progress. Sometimes the world has thrown me a few curve balls that have forced me to get small but the result has been big.

I would like to continue on my big spiritual pilgrimage and still live my smaller, less complicated life. Retiring to a cave is not an option so I have to learn how to incorporate faith and spirit into my everyday not just some days.

Getting a smaller life requires more than a potion. It requires a commitment to what you value in your life. You need to prune and get real. Take off the mask of personal expectation and live your truth. Embody your soul contract.

As the slogan says - Just Do It!

Later peeps.

Word. I love your last post also. And the soul post. I should re-read your book and Aks And It Is Given to reconnect with my Self and the law of attraction. I've been focusing on what ISN'T here so much lately. As we head towards the new moon I think I'll change my mentality and look towards what is possible. Word up.

I am hoping to be able to lessen the things in my life and follow my spiritual quest.
