Culture Vulture
I have been asked to go and talk to an organistaion that is having culture problems. Negative peeps who have been there too long, is the initial diagnosis. The only thing is they want me to talk for 40 minutes tops. Hey, I am alway happy to talk for 4 minutes or 40 minutes but can I turn a culture around in that time? No way Jose.
Culture develops naturally, like that yoghurt in a pot that they advertise on TV. If your melting pot is churning out bacteria and not culture then you have some bad cells in the mix. Dump the negative and focus on the positive. The only thing is that the person who approached me does not have the power to cleanse the pot, so I am not sure I can do much.
What's the old saying? Be the change you want to see in the world. I think Gandhi said that. If I were her, I would head off and find a place to work that already has a value system in place and one that works with hers. These places do exist. They may not have hammocks and coffee machines for the staff but they may have great things like kindess and support, loyalty and belief in others abilitties.
A no ego workplace.
So mote it be.
