What do you look like?

Is it bad if I judge someone by what they wear to a job interview?

Jeans? Dude, we are not google! We do not sit on giant medicine balls and brainstorm in a hammock.  If I went to certain clients wearing jeans I would be hung, drawn and quartered.

We need to reflect what the client wants us to be. When I sit opposite a high government official or recently the Deputy Prime Minister, you want to look the part. For me that is well groomed with touch of individuality. When I sit with my groovier, more relaxed clients, I change slightly in my style but still being me.

I like to bring in my own flavour without losing my integrity. Something we like to give to our clients also.

It's hard when your staff are bad dressers. I have had some classics pass by my office door over the years, bad fake nails which thankfully went to God and people who don't know the meaning of washing their clothes. I hate having to have that talk. People are always offended. Most people think they have a great sense of style and humour. They don't. I am sorry, I know I sound awful and teribly 'unspiritual' but its way that it is. I blame my quadruple Taurus planets.

I was recently served by someone at a high end furniture store who had food all over his t-shirt. Firstly, don't wear a tshirt and secondly, use a napkin.

(Christ I am bitch today.)

It's bit like clients who think their work is the shit till they see what real design can look like. Then they wake up and promise us never to use clipart again.

The best advice is to dress like a person more senior than you, then the people making the decision can see you in this role. In the end you have to be comfortable but if you work for a company then dress lke the owners or Directors of your team.

This is their style, the flavour of the company and you are marketing that. Be present and don't wear jeans to an interview for a management role, unless its at Google.

If you work for yourself then you are in the blessed position to be your own style. If in doubt then a get a stylist. I know a great one if you need a wardobe and look overhaul.

Don't get stuck peeps. Shift your look forward in all areas.

Later.

I like this post! I think many people get confused with how to dress for a 'creative' position, hence the jeans that appeared for you. Oh how i love working for myself for this very reason. If i had to go to an office i would forfeit my first month's pay on suits, I am sure!

I agree Louisa. Suits? Not sure about that, although I like a man in a good suit. Needs to be a good cut. No ties though. Ties are creepy and uptight.
