Choice
Up early to face a crazy, crazy day. Out the door with Scorpio Daughter to meet a 7.30am appointment. Stress and anxiety was high on the agenda. Lots to do, lots to think about and responsibilities to honour. When suddenly I looked at my girl and thought, "What the hell, let's get brekkie."
One warm croissant escargot and latte from Cafe Darling and we were the happiest girls in Christendom. Dropped off at school and I am in at work early. All is better.
Making the choice to feel differently is powerful and not always possible when you are tired or worn down. For me, this morning, it was possible and I am grateful for that moment with my girl.
I am thinking about Martin Seligman and his idea that the more we imbue our own lives with our strengths then the more we are living a life of authenticity.
“The well-being that using our signature strengths engenders is anchored in authenticity. But just as well-being needs to be anchored in strengths and virtues, these in turn must be anchored in something larger. Just as the good life is something beyond the pleasant life, the meaningful life is beyond the good life.”
