One step foward...dosy doe backwards

As the eight week holiday for my children draws to a close, I find myself hanging onto the ledge of sanity by my fingernails. The constant fighting, the teenager with a wardrobe filled with clothes and yet telling me she has nothing to wear and the eight year old who will watch The Simpsons till he has turned himself yellow.

The thought has crossed that the Pisces Son could be retarded with the amount of TV he watches. Even when I turn it off, he then takes up a mobile phone to play with or a Nintendo DS to tap at the screen with mindless repetitive action. The Good Doctor says too much computer time for children infantilizes the brain. If this is so, then I am raising Idiot Savants.

Yeah, I hear the judgements, I am harsh. Maybe so, but you do eight weeks as chef, chauffeur, entertainment guide, cleaner with the worlds most ungrateful clients, oh yes and throw in a husband who was crippled for 2 weeks. Want my life for a moment?

I long for the serenity of the days when I can write and be me again. Only a week to go and yet it seems so far.

The square dancing of parenting has been endless and I am ready to dosy doe my children for peace and quiet of a few hours a day for myself and my dreams. Indulgent? Maybe. Necessary? Yes.

Later.

Oh sister Im hearing ya.....If I hear the introduction to the Wii game one more time, or MY Pisces son scream loud enough to be heard a suburb away "I've just died AGAIN" at his DS, I feel I may reach for the bottle, oh wait, I did that after the first week of holidays !!! I keep telling myself these days will pass too quickly and I should be savouring every moment with my precious child, but right now, precious child is AWOL and horrible, TV / Wii / DS addicted youngster has taken his place..Where is my beautiful Mogwhy, all that is left is a little gremlin...
Luv and light to all us parents I send a prayer out that we may survive these long holidays - in the meatime "G and T" hour is getting earlier and earlier.... xxoo

Ah if only I could claim such controversial and bold statments....nope, this is the work of Susan Greenfield (Baroness and neuroscientist none less!).. and tis highly speculative and controversial....whatever gets you through the day I reckon....
