Rip Van Winkle

I have downloaded a new application for my iPhone called Sleep Cycle.

This little gem tracks your sleep patterns during the night and wakes you when you ste the alarm at the stage when you are in your lightest sleep so you dont wake up feeling groggy and shattered.

What is most interesting is your personal sleep stats or graphs that it offers you to analyze your own sleep and see where you are dreaming and in deep sleep or REM.

As a prolific dreamer, I was fascinated to see what my dream patterns would be.

I am in dream mode in my sleep more than I am in deep sleep. The mornings I can remember my dreams are the ones where the graph indicates that I have been dreaming like crazy. Not enough deep sleep?

I can hardly remember my dreams last night and when I looked at the graph I was in deep sleep more than the dream state.

Dreams serve a purpose for us to problem solve our issues in our subconscious yet dreaming continually can be tiring, trust me, I know this tiredness.

As an adult we need between 7-8 hours of sleep a night. But if we have prolonged periods of sleep deprivation then we need to take a sleep vacation. We have overdrawn our sleep bank account and must make some deposits.

Anyway, on that note, I might go and have a nap...
